What is a Wheel Alignment?
Wheel alignment is fairly simple if you have the right equipment. It is a maintenance issue that should be done regularly to make sure your tires wear evenly. This makes your car safer and makes your tires last longer. If you see your tires have more wear on one side than the other, this is an indication your wheels could be out of alignment. If your steering wheel wants to turn to one side or the other, and your tires are properly inflated that is another indication of an alignment issue. During alignment, the mechanic will also check ball joints, track rods, suspension, and steering bushing. If there is excessive wear on any of these things they may also need to be replaced. It is a good idea to get your tires rotated every 5,000 miles or so, and a lot of people do that with an oil change. Once a year or so, or if you notice problems, the alignment should also be checked. Not doing this can make your tires wear out faster and can make other parts wear out sooner too. In extreme cases, it can affect your steering and can become a safety issue.
